Calf Tightness and Foot Problems

Tight calf muscles can cause or aggravate pre-existing foot problems. When the calf muscles are too tight, and the foot tries to move up in dorsiflexion, ligaments and tendons in the arch of the foot get stretched and weaken. This can lead to many conditions including painful flatfeet, plantar fascitis, ankle arthritis, charcot arthropathy, diabetic forefoot ulcers, Achilles tendinitis, stress fracture of the foot, and more.
